Chiefs Coach Asks Fans for Patience After 2-1 Defeat

Kaizer Chiefs coach, Fernando da Cruz, wants club supporters to understand that he cannot be expected to perform miracles overnight.

Five months ago, Da Cruz – who previously served on much-derided former manager Nasreddine Nabi’s technical staff – was hired as Amakhosi’s head coach.

As such, fans have held out hope that he will turn the struggling club’s fortunes around in the current 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

However, the French tactician has mostly overseen a run of draws for the Sowetan giants, capped by their 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates this past Saturday, 31 October.

In a post-match press conference, Da Cruz admitted that his men need to improve.

“We must use these types of games to grow and reach the next step,” he said. “Players must understand that while we are playing well, we aren’t doing everything right. We need to shift into second gear and improve now.”

By the same token, Da Cruz is pleading for patience from the fans, saying: “We must continue to work, but it takes time. We can’t change things overnight, nor can we gain experience from one day to the next. It begins in training and builds over many matches, but we have to keep learning across competitions of varying intensity.”
